Tahsin Siret Bey (1887-1968) is an important artist known as a Turkish painter and art educator. Originally from Diyarbakır, Tahsin Siret was influential in the development of Turkish painting and is considered one of the pioneers of Turkish modern painting. Tahsin Siret Bey started his education by entering the Istanbul Academy of Fine Arts (currently known as Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University) in 1910, and was sent to Paris in 1913 to study at the École des Beaux-Arts. During his stay in Paris, he had the opportunity to get to know European art and be influenced by modernist movements. After returning to Turkey in 1918, he started working as an educator at the Istanbul Fine Arts Academy and contributed to the training of many artists for many years. He trained many painters who worked in modern and western styles during his time. While Tahsin Siret Bey’s works bear the influence of his period, they also reflect his own style. He generally dealt with still life (object painting) and landscape subjects. The painter’s works are exhibited in important collections and museums that contribute to the development of Turkish painting. The works he exhibited throughout his artistic career and the studies he carried out in the field of education made a significant contribution to the development of Turkish painting and constituted one of the turning points of Turkish painting.
